What's Going On At the Library?
Here's what's coming up soon at the library!
  • We will be closed on July 4.
  • Lapsit story hours for ages 0 to 3 are every Wednesday at 10am at the Main Library.
  • Adult (high school and up) and Junior High (5th through 8th grades) summer reading is underway. Visit here for more information.
  • Children's summer reading is underway!
  • Mission to Read: Dave Rudolf will be entertaining with songs and stories at the Minooka Branch at 1pm on Friday, June 29.
  • Story Times for ages 3 to 7: We will have story times at 10:30am at the Minooka Branch and at 1:30pm at the Main Library on the following Wednesdays: July 11, July 18, July 25 and August 1.
  • Reality Enters Another Dimension: Rod Erdmann will be entertaining with magic, puppets and storytelling at the Minooka Branch at 1pm on Friday, July 13.

What's Happening in Your Community?
  • Movie in the Park: Wednesday June 20 at Dusk at Central Park in Channahon come and watch "Over the Hedge" at Central Park for free! There will be concessions available.
  • Minooka Village Wide Garage Sales: June 21-23 from 9am-3pm each day. Maps will be available at local business and the Minooka Village Hall. If you are interested in getting on the map, the deadline is June 13 and the cost is $3. Visit the Minooka Village Hall for details.
  • Summer Movie: June 23 at 8pm in the field behind the Minooka Junior High School, the movie will be "Happy Feet." Admission is free.
  • Independence Day Celebration: Wednesday, July 4 from 6pm to 9:15pm at the Channahon Community Park. There will be a parade, entertainment, a concert and fireworks. These events are free.
  • Flick and Float Night: Wednesday, July 11 starting at 6:30pm at the Tomahawk Aquatic Center enjoy an evening swim while watching the movie Open Season. Tickets are $2.50 for residents, $4.50 for non-residents at the door.
  • Kid's Garage Sale: Kids in the 1st through 8th grade may sell their items at the Kids' Garage Sale on Saturday, July 14. Pre-registration is required and the deadline is July 12.

What's Going On At the Library?
Here's what's happening for the rest of the month at the library!
  • Lapsit story hours for ages 0 to 3 are every Wednesday at 10am at the Main Library.
  • Adult (high school and up) and Junior High (5th through 8th grades) summer reading is underway. Visit here for more information.
  • Children's summer reading begins on June 15th! You may sign up that day or any day afterwards. Sign up will be available at either library or the opening program.
  • Glow in the Dark Show: Join us at Skateland in Channahon for our annual summer reading opening program! This will be on June 15 from 1pm to 3pm. We will have a show then a free skate until 3pm, skate rental is an additional fee.
  • Mission: Space Camp: This is a day camp designed for children in 3rd through 5th grades. There will be two sessions this year, morning and afternoon. You can request a certain time but that is not guaranteed. Registration is required, space is limited and it will fill up fast, we suggest you sign up on June 15 to make sure you get in. Mission Space Camp will meet on June 19, June 26, July 10, and July 17. See here for more information.

What's Happening in Your Community?

  • Free Fishing Days: June 8-11 are free fishing days in Illinois, you can fish on those days without a license.
  • 6th Annual Youth Fishing Derby: Saturday June 9 from 8:30am-10:30am at the I&M Canal Trail State Park on Canal Street in Channahon. Free event, bring your pole and bait.
  • VW Car Show: June 10 from 10am-3pm, Roadhouse on US 6 and Ridge Road. Food and drinks will be available and there will be door prizes and a raffle.
  • Candlelight Bowl: Saturday June 16 from 8pm to Midnight at Channahon Lanes, sponsored by Chanooka Wish. Tickets are $30 per bowler and include two games, shoe rental, dinner and two drink tickets. $20 for non-bowler includes dinner and two drink tickets. There will also be a raffle. Proceeds go to Chanooka Wish. Call 815-302-1622.

Adult and Junior High Summer Reading
Summer reading for Adults (high school and beyond) and Junior High (5th through 8th grades) has begun and will run through August 10.
Adults: Read 4 books and earn a keychain, Read 8 books and earn an umbrella. We'll also have monthly prize drawings and a grand prize book store gift certificate.
Junior High: Read 4 books and earn a pen/pencil set, read 8 and get a water wiggler, read 12 and get a water bottle caddy. Plus there will be monthly prize drawings and a grand prize drawing for a book store gift certificate. Also this year, you'll have the opportunity to take space themed quizzes in order to earn prizes!

Children's summer reading begins on June 15, go here for details or watch this blog for events as they happen!

And remember lapsit for infants up to 3 years will be on Wednesdays at 10am at the Main Library starting on June 6!
