Have you checked out our online tutoring yet? If you're in grades 4-12 or have a child in those grades that needs some homework help, check it out! It's free, interactive and the tutors are qualified and screened. The service is open only to Three Rivers Public Library District card holders starting on March 1 (per tutor.com) but it will remain free to all card holders. Winter Reading Program
Our winter reading program will begin on January 15 and end March 1. We've added some changes this year, allowing readers from kindergarten on up to participate! We have three levels of reading this year:
  • Children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade: Read 15 books and earn a bean bag friend and a coloring book.
  • Children in grades 4th through 8th grade: Read 10 books and earn a bubble wand pen
  • Adults and teens in grades 9th and up: Read 5 books and win a commuter coffee mug.

What's happening in your community?
  • Dog Days at Skateland: Bring your canine pal to Skateland on the following dates to run off some steam! All dogs must be current on their rabies vaccines and owners are responsible for their pets and cleaning up after them. The dates are January 18, February 1, February 15, March 1, March 15 and April 1. Cost is $2. Dogs under 30 pounds are allowed from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and bigger dogs from 7:45pm to 8:45pm.
  • Musica Viva: David Eicksteadt (bass) and Phillip Spencer (piano) will perform as part of Musica Viva, Joliet Junior College's guest artist recital series on Sunday, January 21 at 3pm at the Fine Arts Theatre. Admission is free.
  • Incoming Freshman Night at Minooka Community High School: Monday, January 22 at 7pm.
  • Cardiac Health Risk Assessment: Tuesday, January 23 at the Minooka Healthcare Center of Morris Hospital. Appointments are available between 6am and 9:30am. The assessment is $35, please call 942-2932 ext 7364 to register.
  • Musica Viva: Dr. David Gresham (clarinet) and Momoko Gresham (piano) will perform the music of Penderecki, Elter, Schumann, Lasser and Benjamin as part of Musica Viva, Joliet Junior College's guest artist recital series on Sunday, February 4 at 3pm at the Fine Arts Theatre. Admission is free.
  • Cinderella's Ball: February 8 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Skateland Recreation Center. For girls ages 3 to 10 years with an adult. Dress in your finest attire and step out for a night fit for a princess. There will be a buffet dinner, dancing and more. Channahon Park District residents $17 per couple/non-res $20 per couple. Registration deadline is February 2.
  • PTO Craft Night: February 9 at N.B. Galloway
  • MCHS Band Booster Valentine Dinner Dance & Auction: Feburary 10 at 6pm at the St. George's Social Hall in Joliet. Tickets are $40 a person, reservations are required, deadline is February 4. To order tickets and reserve seats please contact Lynda at 467-5724 or Nancy at 744-3003
  • Frosty 5 Mile: February 11 at 1pm starting at Pioneer Path School. The Channahon Park District sponsors this race for all ages. The first 250 runners will receive an official knit stocking cap. There will be snacks and rewards after the race. All runners will receive an official race card with their times. Registration ahead of time is $15 residents/$18 non-residents, $20 for all day of race.
  • Chicago Bulls vs Toronto Raptors: February 13 departing at 5:30pm. Join the Channahon Park District for the game. Fee includes ticket, transportation and parking. Seats are limited, so book early, deadline is January 31. Fee is $25 Res, $32 non-resident.
